Why join?

Why not? The employers are unionized.

That may sound incredible, but think about it. How many times in the news about collective bargaining, or a labour dispute have you heard employer side of the story from a spokesperson of one or another of the umbrella organizations that the management side belongs to.

The forestry companies in B.C. have an organization, the health societies that administer the hospitals have one, as do the doctors. In fact, there are a plethora of unions in all walks of life, but they disguise themselves as "professional organizations".

That's how unions got their start, as trade guilds whose function was to protect trade secrets and to maintain professional standards for training and conduct.

So...the very people who are telling the worker that self reliance and individualism is the way to go in earning their living, are very quick themselves to take cover under an entity that allows them to present a united front when securing their own goals in how their livelihood is earned, i.e. a union.

If you or someone you know feels they would be bettering themselves or their fellow workers by belonging to a union then use the following link in complete confidence.
